R Power Analysis

Jianjun Hua, Statistical Consultant in Research Computing, will teach a “R” workshop about power analysis:
Power is the probability of detecting an effect, given that the effect is really there.  Power analysis can be used to calculate the minimum sample size required so that one can be reasonably likely to detect an effect of a given size. Power analysis can also be used to calculate the minimum effect size that is likely to be detected in a study using a given sample size. In addition, power analysis can be used to determine power. You will learn from the workshop how to use R to conduct power analysis for commonly used statistical tools, like correlation, t-test, chi-square test, ANOVA, etc.

During this session, you will also have a chance to learn from an experienced librarian how to find data sets you need for your research, term projects, and theses.
