DESCRIPTION

The Data Experiences and Visualizations Studio (DEV Studio) is looking for artists and coders who have a background in some aspect of virtual or augmented reality development. The XR Fellow will spend one year working in the Studio, helping develop faculty research and teaching projects, supporting student use of the Studio’s equipment, and exploring the possibilities created by technology that mixes the physical world with the virtual.

Strong applicants will have gained an understanding of at least some of the many skills required to develop XR projects during their time at Dartmouth, whether it be 3D modeling, programming in C#, or HCI research. While a broad background looking at several of these areas is desirable, it is more important that the applicant demonstrate a combination of an applied background in one area with a willingness and capability to learn from others as they collaborate on projects throughout the year.

The XR Fellow will spend time researching problems to better understand and solve them under the mentorship of experienced members of the RTL@ITC team. In turn, the XR Fellow will provide mentoring and supervision to student workers in the Studio as well, helping them learn the basics of XR development. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a requirement of the position, as is the ability to be self-directed and highly innovative.
