Research Computing’s Jianjun Hua spoke to an attentive audience of Economic Department Faculty in January about using the software package R for machine learning.

Machine learning, a type of artificial intelligence that provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed, is currently a hot topic as technological advances continue to increase the volume and complexity of data available for study. One of the most widely used statistical software packages in the field, R, is free, open-sourced, and offers a range of statistical and graphical techniques. Jianjun teaches his audience how to use R to conduct machine learning, including supervised and unsupervised learning.

Jianjun’s January talk was marked by a high attendance and responsive audience. Jianjun followed up with an in-depth workshop in February.
