What is Memory and how do I use it?
Overview
Memory is a feature in Dartmouth Chat that allows it to remember helpful information between chat conversations, making responses more personalized and relevant. Examples of items captured in Memory could include your name, your location, your job, or your interests.
Of note, this feature is turned off by default and you have complete control over what is “remembered”. You can also use “Temporary Chat” to temporarily ignore anything in your Memory. Also important to note, using Memory will consume additional tokens if using a public model.
How do I turn Memory on and off?
To turn Memory on and off, click on the Integration tool below the prompt box and toggle the Memory switch. A “brain” icon will be visible when this feature is active.
Once made active, your Memory will inform the results of your prompts, and your subsequent prompts will be added to Memory as well.
You can also update Memory options from the Integration tool. This will allow you to select the model that extracts and processes Memories, as well as get feedback about what’s being extracted and/or updated.
How do I view and manage what’s in Memory?
You can use the tools available in Settings > Personalization > Memory to add, edit, or delete individual memories or even clear your memory entirely.
How do I avoid using Memory in my chats?
There are times when Memory is not helpful in your work. You can turn off Memory using the Integration tool (the “brain” icon will disappear when Memory is set as inactive). You can also use “Temporary Chat” to temporarily ignore anything in your Memory.
